The part of the electromagnetic spectrum that human eyes can detect; also known as the visible spectrum. The colors of the rainbow make up visible light.
Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3)
A new camera that will replace the Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2 during SM4.The purpose of the camera is to use the latest CCD (charge-coupled device) technology and optical coatings to provide the widest range of light detection spanning ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared wavelengths. WFC3 will greatly enhance Hubble’s observational capabilities.
Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2
An instrument made up of four CCDs that collect light from celestial objects to make images. WFPC2 was installed aboard the Hubble telescope during the First Servicing Mission in December 1993. WFPC2 has produced most of the stunning images that have been released to the public.
