Hubble observes volcanic eruption on Io

This image of Jupiterís volatile moon Io, taken in 1996 by the Hubble Space Telescope, shows a large plume of material erupting from Pele, one of the moonís most powerful volcanoes. The plume is the wispy, red material extending from Ioís lower left edge.
